Meet Juliana Artiñano (@juli.artinano.yoga), a mother, psychologist by profession, yoga instructor, holistic therapist specialized in gem therapy, sound healing, and founder of Ananda Yoga. Juli has inspired us for quite some time, as she integrates her psychology knowledge into each of her classes. We hosted our very first Self-Discovery Journey event with her.
Get to know Juli and all the reasons she lives the #SULARAlife.
How did you come to yoga, meditation, and living a conscious life?
I stumbled upon yoga by chance when meeting up with a cousin I’m very close to, and we started practicing together. Later, I began using yoga as a way to clear my mind after working with patients; it helped me step away from their situations, giving me a clearer perspective on how to approach each case. Over time, I fell more and more in love with yoga, which led me to where I am today.
Every morning, I take time for conscious breathing, and I also do this before going to sleep. It’s a practice that came very naturally. I also make a point of practicing gratitude, always finding something to be thankful for—from a sunrise to the fragrance of flowers.
How do you balance motherhood and the movement that your work requires?
I haven’t yet found that balance, as my daughter is still very young. My priority is always my daughter, which helps me keep my zen. I know this stage is temporary, and when she grows older, I’ll have more time.
What tips would you share to balance mind, body, and spirit?
For me, I try to eat well and carve out time to be with myself. Lately, breathwork has become my best friend. I love my profession, so I don’t see it as work; it allows me to connect with different people and stories, which helps me feel fulfilled in different areas.
How do you practice self-love?
I practice it daily because I know that if I don’t take care of myself and give myself attention and self-care, I can’t give my best in other areas. When I practice self-love, I notice my creativity blossoms, I am more present with my students, and I am loving with my daughter and partner. I know it’s essential for my yoga practice, too, because for those around me to be well, I first need to be well with myself.
What inspires you and why?
So many things! Simple things, seeing love, transformation—those inspire me immensely!
Do you have a mantra you live by? Any new mantra at the moment?
I don’t have one favorite mantra; each has worked for me at different times in my life. Lately, the one I find myself singing and repeating is Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu, which means “May all beings everywhere be happy and free, and may the thoughts, words, and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and freedom for all.”
What’s your favorite piece from Sulara (and why)?
My favorite piece from Sulara is the Brun legging. "It feels like a second skin." The waistband is high, and even though it has compression, the fabric doesn’t feel stiff or heavy. It’s so comfortable!
